New Executive Director Appointed at Jewish Family & Child Service

Portland, OR, July 1, 2015: The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Carrie Hoops to the position of executive director at Jewish Family & Child Service (JFCS). Ms. Hoops has served as interim executive director since April 2014, and has been key in planning the recently announced consolidation of JFCS and Cedar Sinai Park, a human services agency in Portland focused on providing residential and community-based care to our elders and adults with special needs. Carrie’s appointment as executive director is effective on July 1. Carrie brings a wealth of nonprofit management experience to JFCS, including skills in change management, collaborative leadership, organizational assessments, fundraising and communications.

Over the past 23 years, Carrie has contributed to the success of several outstanding civic, humanities and arts organizations in Oregon, and has led strategic transitions at six regional nonprofits. A lifelong Oregonian, Carrie formerly served as Executive Director of the Nonprofit Association of Oregon and as Executive Director of Literary Arts, a community-based nonprofit that serves readers and writers.
“I am delighted that Carrie has accepted the position of Executive Director at JFCS,” said Les Soltesz, board president. “Over the last 15 months, Carrie has served as Interim Executive Director and has clearly demonstrated excellent skills in leading JFCS. Having this continuity will undoubtedly serve us well as we transition into the Cedar Sinai Park organization.”
Sandra Simon, Chief Operating Officer at Cedar Sinai Park, echoed those sentiments: “Carrie’s experience and leadership are what is needed during this consolidation and beyond. I look forward to our bright future.”
Jewish Family & Child Service is a well-respected agency that has assisted Portland-area residents for nearly 70 years. One of its signature programs provides more than 100 local Holocaust survivors with culturally competent homemaker assistance and other specialized services.
“JFCS does such stellar work to support at-risk community members as they transform their lives,” said Ms. Hoops. “It’s been deeply gratifying to work with the talented board and staff at JFCS during the past year. It’s an honor to be appointed to lead the organization and to help inform our future direction.” Jewish Family & Child Service (JFCS) has served the metropolitan Portland area since 1947 as an affiliate of the national Association of Jewish Family and Children’s Agencies (AJFCA). JFCS recently joined Cedar Sinai Park’s family of human service organizations. JFCS’s expertise will allow for expanded programs that provide vulnerable people with social services, counseling, case management and emergency aid.
