First Thursday Harvest Abundant for Fall

Portland, September 5th, 2013. The Laura Russo Gallery was a hot spot for fall’s First Thursday. Gallery owner, Martha Lee is featuring the work of Eric Stotik among others. For his latest exhibition, Eric Stotik spent the past two years creating a continuous painting that is 5 feet high and 45 feet long. The painting consists of 11 panels that connect to one another almost seamlessly.

Seattle artist Anne Siems is also featured. She paints ethereal figures in mythical places. This exhibition is informed by a fascination with ceremonies that Siems has had since childhood, particularly from time spent living in South America.

The Laura Russo Gallery  gallery represents over forty artists, so First Thursday fans were able to check out the work of many.

A colorful Frederick Heidel glass creation titled, “Animated Yellow” was one work for sale at $15,000.

Gregory Grenon’s new work is on display.

Sherrie Wolf’s work will be featured in November for First Thursday.

The Portland Art Gallery at 2516 NW 29th features local artists, stone sculpture and restoration services. The Portland Art Gallery was founded in 2013 by Jason Jones and friends to help bring attention to some of the lesser known and underrepresented local artist working in our community.

The Froelick Gallery is featuring Alfred Harris, including his work titled, Hope and Glory.

The First Thursday website has more information on local galleries. The art galleries in downtown Portland are happy to see supporters on the “First Thursday” of every month for an evening of art, wine and music. You can walk from gallery to gallery to view all of the new art exhibits. Generally the hours are 6pm to 9pm, but check each gallery’s website for more information and to view all the artists works that they represent.
