Would You Like to be a Member of the 2013 Portland Rose Festival Court?

Portland, October 9th. Winners receive a $3,500 scholarship, a new wardrobe, professional business mentoring and the chance to become the Queen of Rosaria. Applications are now available for the 2013 Portland Rose Festival Court presented by Pacific Power with a $3,500 scholarship provided by The Randall Group going to 15 selected winners from the greater metropolitan tri-county area. From Molalla to Hillsboro, potential Princesses can pick up an application on-line at RoseFestival.org. Application deadline for the 2013 Court Program is 5 p.m. Friday January 4, 2013. Members of the 2013 Rose Festival Court will be announced in March of 2013.

After being selected in March, Court Members attend after-school and evening orientation meetings during the month of April. Beginning May 1, Court Members travel full-time 6 days a week for 6 weeks, visiting community events, business leaders, hospitals, senior living centers, youth organizations and civic groups.

Court Members also receive one-on-one mentorship from Pacific Power’s senior management team, a $3,500 scholarship valid for any accredited college, university or trade program, a complete wardrobe including shoes and accessories, and a lifetime of enduring friendships with their Rose Festival Court sisters.

To be eligible for the Rose Festival Court, candidates must:

• Be Female
• Attend a 4A, 5A or 6A high school in Multnomah, Washington or Clackamas counties
• Be a senior graduating in June 2013 or a junior on track to graduate in June 2014
• Have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (applicants with GPA between 2.75 and 3.0 with exigent circumstances may still be eligible,
• Have a verifiable minimum of 20 hours community service performed during high school
• Submit a complete application by January 4, 2013
• Attend one mandatory orientation session in January 2013
• Participate in the Court Selection process

Court selection criteria

• Character (50%): Demonstrates good citizenship, community-minded, involved in school and other activities, shows desires to help others.
• Communication Skills (25%): Good verbal skills, speaks clearly, expresses herself appropriately, creative speech content, correct grammar, good eye contact.
• Presence (25%): Poised under pressure, prepared for speech and interview, enthusiastic, sincere, comfortable with herself, appropriate grooming.

The selection of Rose Festival Princesses from local high schools has been a Rose Festival tradition since 1930. The mission of the Rose Festival Court program is to provide scholarships for higher education, to promote community outreach and volunteerism, to offer networking and mentoring opportunities to outstanding young women in a program that perpetuates an appreciation for Rose Festival history and tradition.

42 schools are eligible to participate in the Rose Festival Court program. All Portland schools will select a Princess and then there are two metro positions: Metro Position East and West.
